小川紳介：…有個在電影裏沒有使用的插曲：打雷的時候，對面左邊的杉樹，也就是神樹被劈斷了。於是，老婆婆就把這折斷的木頭揀回來。你猜她們用它做什麼？是筷子（笑）。那棵樹是神仙寄宿的樹，是神樹，所以拿它做筷子很吉利。比如說，如果把這筷子拴在房子主柱和大樑交叉的地方，就會家族平安。更有甚者，馬上跑去把它拍成照片，把神木放在山神廟，拍成彩色照片，然後把它放大，走村串戶去賣。歸根到底，它也是保家族平安的神牌。 內藤正敏：很有意思啊。筷子和境遇的發音相同，是連接前世和現世的橋樑。隨著打雷，村民突然想起要用這折斷的神木做筷子。打雷的打擊使這裏民俗性的心意復蘇了。這是一個了不起的事。 銘刻於身體中的紀錄，小川紳介的世界（1995）。頁206至207。 小川紳介/著，山根貞男/編，馮豔/譯，遠流出版。
